Photographing a dear friend, Fawwaz

Hanger Appeal is a research-led proposition for a new way of looking at the Body, Garment and Fashion. It is a critical analysis of fashion design process as well as the semiotic study of the body and garment. Conducted through visual experimentation, exploring fashion, photography and sculpture, as well as writings from artists and researchers who works with similar themes, it explores the theme across three stages, questioning the role of the Body in design, the role of the Garment on a body as well as the Body in an unworn garment.

Hello, Orlando

After a grueling 30-hour travel from Singapore to Russia then to Texas and finally arriving at Florida past midnight, Orlando sure didn't disappoint. I resided at a lodge a stone throw away from the main amusement parks but it was so densely forested, the tranquility of this beautiful state was not compromised. The week was then spent visiting museums, amusements parks, binge-eating at the waffle house right next to the lodge, spending way too much time awestricken over the prices in the supermarket and constantly searching for a decent Chinese restaurant. Although settling for a decent Chinese restaurant was no easy feat.

It was a great feeling to be back to the place my mother considered home for her seventeen year old self. Being back at the place she and my father dated and travelled over the summer while finishing college. The mother herself brought me to specific places she went when she was my age saying (I quote), "I was here when I was seventeen, with your father. Now that I'm here again, I'm with you instead... and you're seventeen too."

Feelin' festive

It's been a month since Laneway Festival happened but I haven't gotten around to getting the films developed in time since I was leaving for the Orlando two days later. That aside, the highlight of the festival would be watching Banks do her 'thang' live. It was this freelance bathroom singer's dream come true when her set went on (also, the crowd seemed just as contented as I was to see the goddess herself.)

Film Diary: December

There is always a magnetism about December marking the final conclusion to a year and sublimely wrapping it all up with the holidays...school's out for the year, the sight of massive seasonal discounts, Christmas, vacation plans, new adventures. Particularly with December of 2015, the closure to four years in school, I decided to jump head-first into the bandwagon of new experiences alike many school-leavers.

Decided upon my rationality to shave a good quarter of the hair on my head, get together with friends I haven't met for awhile, cycle to the heart of town on rented bicycles, explore an old neighborhood on skateboards, attend a fashion runway, go back to old places of not-so-secret hideouts, make a trip to an old hometown in Malaysia and visit Hong Kong.
